Styles of Graphic Art in Computer Games

There are four different styles of graphic art used in video games they are: Photo-realism - This style is for games that have a lot of realism to them and look realistic. Some examples of games that are realistic are GTA V, Forza Horizon 4 and Fifa 19. These games are realistic because the characters are human and they look real  Cel-Shading - This style is used for games that have a cartoon look to them. Some examples of Cel-Shaded games are Cuphead. This game is Cel-Shaded as the characters are not realistic and they are cartoon like also the  stages and backgrounds are cartoon. Abstract - This style is a style for games that us shapes and colours. Some examples of abstract games are colour switch and geometry dash. This game is abstract because the character you play as is ...

Different File Types

BMP=Bitmap Bitmap is a raster graphics image file format, it stores bitmap digital images. It’s capable of storing two-dimensional images both monochrome and colour. The kind of people who use Bitmap are Graphic Designers as they a graphics images and at some point graphic designers will have to use them. GIF=Graphics Interchange Format A Graphics Interchange Format is a bitmap image format. This file type uses animation so it looks like the picture is moving. Graphic Designers are most likely to use these as they could use them to create the graphics for something and also website makers might use these in their website. TIFF=Tagged Image File Format A Tagged Image File Format is a file that stores raster graphics images. The kind of people who use Tagged Image File Format are graphics artists and Photographers. JPEG=Joint Photographic Experts Group JPEG is a used method of lossy compression for digital images mostly for Photoshop images. The kind of...

The Application of digital graphics

Image
Concept Art -Concept Art is designs that are used for computer games before they're made so these can be pencil drawings of the levels, characters or objects within the game they can also be coloured drawings with paint etc. They can also be the 3d models of the characters or objects within the game as they are not in the game yet and they're only just designs.                                                                                                          Image 1                                                                          ...

Pixels and Image Resolution

Image
A Pixel also known as picture element is the smallest part in an image it can only be a single colour. 1000's of pixels make up one image the more pixels in an image the higher quality the image will be because more pixels will make it up because if an image only contains a few hundred pixels you will begin to see the squared pixels and the picture won't look high quality because you'll see the pixels e.g. in the first Mario game the characters and the level was pixelated because you could see squares on them because they didn't have good technology back then and games today you see no pixilation whatsoever because the games are of really high quality. Also images can be measured by pixels so you know how large they are e.g. 1000 x 300 pixels. Each pixel is given an RGB value which stands for red, green and blue because every colour has at least one of those colours within it. Resolution is how many pixels are  in an image and if it is clear or not e.g. if a pic...

Types of digital graphics

Raster Images Raster Images are images that are made using a pixel grid and the pixels will fit perfectly in the squares and won't overlap them. Most modern computers have bitmap displays as each pixel corresponds to a small number of bits in memory. Vector Images Images made up of shapes and polygons, they don't lose clarity when stretched. They make bit map images a lot clearer. Vector images are also ideal for printing since it's made from a series of curves and will print a lot smoother and when you also photo copy them larger they will still keep the good quality they had before.

How Do Games Use Optimizing

Image
Games use optimizing by trying to make their games run smoothly and trying to make it use less memory as possible and trying to keep it high resolution as well. Some Examples of games that would be classed as well optimized are Forza Horizon 3, Cuphead and GTA V these games are classed as Well Optimized as the game doesn’t glitch a lot the graphics are really good and it doesn’t lose its resolution. Games that are not well-optimized are games that are really glitchy and don't look good or take up lots of memory on your console/pc.   Forza Horizon 3 In the game Forza Horizon 3 the Higher Resolution would be the car and the rusty structure and the Low Resolution would be the sky and the water when it’s splashed as there would not need to be a lot of detail in them.                                                            ...
